What is on this site?
Reading (that's books, not the town)
This section should eventually become devoted to book reviews and recommendations. For the time being it'll just be a list of books I have enjoyed reading recently. As with all the sections you can find it via the menu on the left (or just click here).
Gaming
Similarly, this section will hold reviews and recommendations of games I enjoy. It is mainly aimed at board games but since I do have an interest in console games they will creep in too. If you want to get hold of any of these games then get in touch and I will either recommend a store or sell you one myself. You never know, one day I might have my own shop. For now there is mainly just a list of games and systems that I own, want or have up for sale/trade. If you don't have anyone to play games with face to face then there is also an interesting section devoted to the playing of board games online. Although if you are in the Leamington Spa area then you could always come along to Board Silly on a Monday evening. Navigate using the menu bar or click here.
Blog
General rants and information about what I've been up to and what I find interesting at the moment can be seen in my blog. This is probably only of interest to those of you that know me. If I manage to write anything relevant to "outsiders" it should get added to one of the sections linked to above.
Core War
For a while I was interested in Core War. I couldn't find a decent, low tech explanation of Core War so fully intended to write one. In the process I would show some of my attempts at writing red code (no it's nothing to do with the code red virus) and some more advanced techniques such as genetic algorithms. Unfortunately I haven't yet had time to do this so the page is more of a placeholder. When it arrives it will be hosted at this, my core war page.
Who are you?
You may know me by my real name, Gary Barker. Then again you might have met me (probably online) under the guise of darkmuse, kallisti or if its been a while perhaps sloedjin. To see what I'm up to and recent site changes check my blog.
Why does this page look different with different browsers?
Don't worry - I haven't resorted to using any horrible client-side scripts
like Javascript or silly things like that!
The page uses stylesheets to try and separate the presentation style from
the content which ought to make maintenance easier as well as making it look
better for the reader. Unfortunately not all browsers will have currently
implemented some of the styles that I use. If you have a browser that makes
the page look terrible please let me know.
Also, if you have a browser that supports it, you should be able to change
to an alternative stylesheet. On firefox try clicking on "View" -> "Page
Style". I only put that in so you can play if you so wish.
Just in - try the drop down list at the bottom of the left hand panel to
change the style in stupid browsers that don't support alternate stylesheets
natively :)
Anything else?
Occasionally friends ask me to put some things on the web for them as I have this web space that I make little use of. I also sometimes store temporary stuff here fo personal use or ebay auctions and the like. transient stuff
