Gaming - A great hobby.

This section will hold reviews and recommendations of games I enjoy. It is mainly aimed at board games but since I do have an interest in console games they will creep in too. If you want to get hold of any of these games then get in touch and I will either recommend a store or sell you one myself. You never know, one day I might have my own shop. For now there is mainly just a list of games and systems that I own, want or have up for sale/trade. If you don't have anyone to play games with face to face then there is also an interesting section devoted to the playing of board games online. Although if you are in the Leamington Spa area then you could always come along to Board Silly on a Monday evening.

Board games

Do you remember the good old days when you didn't have to work? School was a bore but at least you had so much more free time. So why did we spend it collecting £200 for passing GO or hoping beyond hope for a double six just to hang onto Irkutsk? Well now board games are a lot more interesting and a lot more fun.

In fact if you looked hard enough there were always fun and interesting games out there. The Germans saw this and carried on producing and playing games while we were still all playing Monopoly and Risk. The last 15 years or so have seen the arrival of hundreds of great games. The only problem is that no-one knows about them and the high street retailers won't stock them so only those in the know get to play them. Well hopefully after reading this you'll be in the know too and you can go out and play the best that the board game world has to offer.

You may, by now, be thinking that I'm some crazed war games addict who wants you all to go out and paint legions of lead soldiers. Or perhaps you think I might be one of those guys that just never grew up (actually, you wouldn't be far wrong there). But the games I hope to introduce should be easy to learn with rules explanations taking no longer than 5 or 10 minutes, should give plenty of interaction and no downtime (thats when you have what seems like hours between 1 turn and the next). They should also, more than anything else, be fun to play and even the loser should have had a good time.

Next paragraph to explain the rise of modern board games and then start linking to reviews.

Where am I going to include the classics (Go, Chess, Mah Jong and card games)?

For your old classics from Cluedo to Monopoly, Risk to Trivial Pursuits take a look at Toycentre

I've recently started to create this page listing free computer versions of board games.

And here is a small selection of UK games shops I stumbled across while looking to buy a box of Magic:TG boosters.

Temporarily, here is a link to the latest uk.games.board faq that I know of. Check the newsgroup to see if there is a later one available.

Console Games

Well, this seems like a reasonable place to keep my list of games I'm still looking for

And they would compliment my gaming (and other stuff) collection

An attempt to make my collection a little more readable (requires javascript though!)

Also, here is an attempt to keep my list in a database and read it via php
